Heart of the Sun

When the sun's heart is stolen, the world begins to die.

On the Festival of the Fifth Sun, Tenochtitlan roars with drums and incense. Then the light falters. From the smoke atop the Templo Mayor, Tezcatlipoca descends, rips the living heart of Tonatiuh from the sacred fire, and vanishes into a rift that tastes of sulfur and night. The sun wounds, the air chills, crops wither, and panic ripples through the city.

Xihua, a calmecac-trained daughter of chinampa farmers, wants a warrior's path, not a prophecy. In the temple chaos, High Priest Tlacaelel presses a consecrated obsidian blade into her hand and reveals the mark burning on her palm, a feathered spiral that carries the sun's will. Her command is brutal and clear: bring back the heart or the Fifth World dies.

With Cualli, a sharp-tongued scout who trusts instinct more than omen, Xihua flees a city cracking under twilight and hunts the god of smoke across a dying land. Jungle leaves blacken, rivers sour, and the stars glare like watching eyes. Tezcatlipoca's trail is deceit, his servants are tzitzimime, star demons that tear at the veil between worlds. Every step demands blood, judgment, and faith.

Heart of the Sun is mythic fantasy rooted in Nahua cosmology, cosmic stakes, mortal courage, and a dying world where gods, demons, prayer, and steel collide.
