In the village of Vergessen, people do not vanish with screams or blood.

When Elara realizes that the village baker is gone and no one else remembers he ever lived, she understands something is moving beneath ordinary life, something patient, intimate, and hungry. The abandoned bakery rots backward in time. An herbalist's cottage collapses into false ruin. A weaver accepts a miraculous cure for her ruined hands, only to begin unraveling from the fingertips inward. A farmer bargains away a kernel of seed corn and almost loses his father's face to the soil.

Years ago, before her son Tomas was born, she faced a bargain-making creature in a locked tower and won by naming it. But the victory was incomplete. The creature did not die. It learned. Now it has become something worse, a devourer of names that feeds on memory, identity, grief, and the fragile social bonds that hold people in the world.

As more villagers are taken and their stolen lives are woven into a hidden machine deep in the Whisperwood, Elara, Tomas, Lyra the weaver, Kael the farmer, and others must fight back with the only weapon the creature truly fears: remembered truth. Ledgers, parish registers, village gossip, private grief, and public naming all become part of a desperate resistance against a monster that wants not only bodies, but the right to decide who was ever real.

The Name-Eater is a dark folkloric horror novel about memory as resistance, bargains as predation, names as anchors against oblivion, and the terrible cost of keeping the forgotten from being swallowed whole.
