The Bone Garden of Amari

A return home. A buried massacre. An ancestral court built from bone.

When Amina comes back to Kenya’s Great Rift Valley after her grandmother’s death, she expects grief and unfinished family business. Instead, she finds a village going quiet in the wrong ways: crops failing, animals sickening, and people forgetting names they have spoken their whole lives.

Then the Bone Garden opens.

The dead, the Ndugu, are not haunting anyone. They are holding court. They want the truth of an old betrayal, and they want the stolen names restored, spoken, and placed where they belong. Amina is given an impossible task: carry the names into the Garden, bind them to bone, and finish what her bloodline helped erase. If she fails, the sentence is simple.

Guided by a ritual authority who knows the rules, and hunted by voices wearing her grandmother’s mouth, Amina must use a confessional journal left by the first betrayer, Amari, to survive the trial. The deeper she goes, the more the Garden tries to turn her into its next Witness.
