The Hollowing Echoes

A coal town in West Virginia is forgetting its own children.

Reporter Cora Whitmore drives into Black Hollow chasing a tip: three kids vanished in a week, and nobody can agree on their names. The deeper she pushes, the stranger the town gets. A diner waitress insists she has never seen Cora before. Missing posters turn into blank paper. A photograph of a teenage boy fades while you stare at it, as if attention is the trigger.

The locals call it stress. The sheriff calls it runaways. The mountains tell a different story.

Long before Black Hollow, there was a hollow that did not echo, a mine that swallowed seven men without a sound, and a word passed down like a warning: Otsinil, the one who un-makes. It does not hunt with teeth. It feeds on what people leave behind, memory, kinship, meaning, name.

Cora teams with Lila Grange, a girl trying to keep her brother real with ink on skin, and Elias, a researcher who believes records can still matter. Together they learn the only rule that buys time: marks hold, until they do not. When the town starts erasing the proof itself, they are forced to fight the Hollowing with the one thing it hates.
