The House That Walks

In 1959, something drove nine hikers out of their tent on Dead Mountain and into the snow.

The official explanations never settled the horror. Avalanche. Wind. Military testing. Exposure. But buried beneath the reports and rumors, another story survived. A crooked timber house on pale jointed legs, moving silently through the storm. A structure that was never shelter, only bait.

Decades later, in the ruins of Youngstown's old Republic Steel property, photographer Lena Marwood and her urban exploration crew follow a strange image into the dark. The post shows a house standing in a place where no house should be, a black, decaying structure in the middle of an abandoned industrial clearing. By the time they arrive, it is waiting for them.

At first it looks impossible. Then it opens its door.

Inside, the house is bigger than it should be, older than it should be, and alive in ways no building has any right to be. Rooms shift. Walls whisper. A child's nursery becomes a feeding chamber. A boiler room pulses like an organ. The dead remain packed into its architecture, and at the center of it all waits an ancient hunger wearing the old folkloric shape of Baba Yaga.

To survive, Lena and the others must move through a house that hunts with memory, grief, and invitation, and learn the truth of what it really is: not a home that walks, but a predator that learned to disguise itself as one.
